A great example of the recent find of Helvite from this very interesting locality which has proven to be the best of the species. Some of these have proved to be Genthlevite, but I will err on the side of caution with this specimen as say it is probably Helvite. A great thumbnail for the species.

A great example of crystallized copper from a peculiar occurrence at this large copper mine hosted not in the typical basaltic rocks but in a unit called the Nonesuch shale, which hosts a stratabound copper deposit somewhat unique for the Upper Peninsula. Specimens are rarely seen today from this locality, a contact-metamorphic skarn located near the ~13,400′ summit of Italian Mountain in a remote area of central Colorado’s high mountains. Italian Mountain is one of the best localities on the U.S for Vesuvianite, and has also produced high-quality gemmy grossular garnet crystals and other species, including gem-quality blue lapis lazuli (lazurite).

An excellent group of very gemmy orange-red Sphalerite crystals to 1.2 cm. on white dolomite crystals from the Las Manforas Mine, Picos De Europas, Cantabrias, Spain. A very aesthetic specimen from this classic, now-closed locality. Very minor scuffing to one crystal face and a small cleave to a lesser crystal on the side, but I would not say this detracts from the display qualities of this wonderful little specimen. Very aesthetic and an increasingly hard-to-find European classic.

 By now, the Ilvaite crystals from Huanggang are recognized as being by far the best in the world. While I saw numerous Ilvaite’s for sale in Tucson this year, I only ended up buying a handful which I considered really nice for the price, having great luster, aesthetics, and form. A modern Chinese ‘classic.’

A nice specimen featuring ruby-red crystals of proustite to ~3 mm. in vugs in Native Arsenic, which has replaced herringbone native Silver as you can see, from the Nieder Mine, Schlema district, Erzgebirge, Saxony, Germany. The label says ‘Nieder’, but I don’t see any mention of this of mindat and think it might be from the more well-known 371 shaft instead. In any case, a nice example of an exceedingly rare mineral assemblage.
