Serandite, the Manganese analogue of pectolite, is a rare and often beautiful mineral that occurs in alkalic pegmatites associated the nepheline syenite intrusions and related rocks. While it was first discovered on the Isle of Rouma in the West African nation of Guinea, it reaches its zenith at the Poudrette and Demix Quarries on Mont Saint Hilaire, Quebec, Canada. Here, serandite forms spectacular salmon-pink to rich orange-red prismatic crystals to 20+ cm, often associated with white analcime and green aegirine crystals, along with a range of rarer species. Unfortunately today the future of collecting at Mont Saint Hilaire is uncertain, and one of the world’s great mineral localities is essentially closed. While there have been numerous finds of serandite at MSH since it was first discovered there in the 1960′s, most people agree the best crystals were found in the 1973 and 1988 pockets. The following are a selection of good serandite specimens from this find at what I hope are reasonable prices. These were collected and acquired by the father of a friend of mine from Montreal. Enjoy and as always feel free to contact me with any questions! -Philip
