Description
Species: Calcite, Pyrite, Galena
Locality: “Golden Pocket”, Cemetery Ridge Development, West Orebody, Sweetwater mine, Reynolds County, Missouri, USA
Size: 32 x 22 x 10 cm.
Superb very large plate of gorgeous, highly-lustrous golden calcite crystals to 7 cm. on a matrix of crystallized dolomite, pyrite and galena from the so-called “Golden Pocket”, discovered in the summer and fall of 2024 at the famous Sweetwater mine in central Missouri’s Viburnum Trend lead mining district. In my opinion this is the best pocket found in years at Sweetwater, with large, sculptural specimens exhibiting excellent color, bright luster, and amazingly good condition, even for large plates such as this. A beautiful mineral specimen! Mark Cross photo.
