Sapphirine

Outstanding, large, very sharp pair of Sapphirine crystals measuring up to ~4 cm. across (very large for the species!), set in biotite-sillimanite gneiss matrix from a major “best-of-species” discovery in 2023-2024 in southern Madagascar at a hence unknown locality in the Vangaindrano area. For this find, it was fairly unusual to find such a large, perfect single crystal group on matrix, and totally undamaged. This specimen has been professionally prepared in a mineral lab to maximally expose the sapphirine crystals and also result in the specimen being “self-standing” in an aesthetically-ideal display position. These ‘best of species’ sapphirine specimen are all from a one-time find in 2024 and none of this size or quality have been found since. Fantastic quality for this rare mineral!
