This is an outstanding large, beautifully-crystallized copper specimen from Michigan’s iconic Lake Superior Copper District in the wild and rugged Keweenaw Peninsula. Fine copper specimens such as this have been eagerly sought by advanced collectors and museums for over 150 years, and this large cabinet-size specimens is wonderfully 3-dimensional, featuring a large “ring” of modified dodecahedral and twinned textrahexehedral copper crystals to over 4 cm perched aesthetically on a “stalk” of copper.

This fine old classic was previously in the noted collections of Joesph Freilich, who assembled a world-class mineral collection in the late 1990’s to early 2000’s with the help of famed collector and advisor Dave Wilbur. The specimen then passed to the A.E. Seaman Museum in Houghton, Michigan, from which I obtained it in a trade. A fabulous large copper with a great patina, great form, and great provenance.
