Fine large specimen of blocky orthorhombic crystals of the unusual REE mineral aeschynite-(Y) from what is probably the world’s best locality for this mineral, the Molland pegmatites in southern Norway’s famous Iveland District. Good specimens of this rare mineral are quite uncommon these days, and this fine and sizable example features well-formed crystals. It is from the personal collection of Knut Molland, the quarry owner and discoverer, who collected hundreds of superb aeschynite-(Y) specimens back in the 1960’s, 70’s and 80’s on his property. Measures ~50,000 CPM on my Ludlum Model 3 Counter with the 44-9 probe. Rare!
