The famous Trepca Mining District, a world-class locality for numerous sulfide and gangue minerals, has recently started producing fine specimens again. This is a choice large specimen of well-formed lustrous pyrite and pyrhhotite crystals on a matrix of crystallized chalcopyrite, black sphalerite and white “needle quartz”. A great example of crystallized chalcopyrite from Trepca, which is not common. This is a classic sulfide association piece for this famous mining district, and in very good condition considering the large size of this showy piece. Mark Cross photo.
