The Blackdene mine, located in the famous North Pennines mining district in northern England, has been well-known to collectors for many years for its classic and superb fluorite specimens. This excellent large cabinet-size example consists of an elegant “chain” of well-formed, vibrant purple fluorite crystals to 4.2 cm on edge, covered in places with brassy, lustrous chalcopyrite crystals to ~5 mm, which provide wonderful contrast. The specimen is a nearly-complete “floater”, with good fluorite crystals on all sides, and is in very good condition overall. When perched on it’s custom engraved acrylic base by Sunnywood, this wonderful British fluorite really catches the eye. This fine specimen was in the noted collection of Dr. Ed David (#ED972), and was later sold to The Collectors Edge, from which it retains a label. Annette Slade photo. Classic!
