Description
Species: Rhodonite
Locality: Franklin mine, Franklin, Sussex County, New Jersey, USA
Size: 6.7 x 5 x 2 cm.
Ex. George Elling, Jim Chenard, Fred Parker Jr. Collections
Superb specimen of bladed rhodonite crystals on franklinite-willemite ore matrix from the famous Franklin mine in Franklin, New Jersey. These are very hard to come by and this is an excellent example with great color and good size crystals for the locality. Long before the well-known bladed rhodonite crystals from Peru started coming out, these old classics from Franklin set the far for this form of the species. This specimen has a great provenance starting with an acquisition by Fred Parker Jr. in 1979, followed by being sold in 1989 to Jim Chenard, who traded it to George Elling in 1992. Parker traded it back from Elling in 1993 for a smaller bladed rhodonite plus a hodgkinsonite. Mark Cross photo.
