The Milpillas mine, an underground copper mine located in northern Mexico in Sonora State, has become a household name in the mineral collecting world over the past decade as the source of what many collectors consider the world’s finest azurite crystals. This particular specimen exhibits great luster, striking blue color, and very lustrous fans of complex blue crystals in good condition on contrasting green malachite matrix. Good specimens with this azurite and malachite matrix combination were never common at Milpillas and this is a fantastic example. Ex. Marshall Sussman. A beautiful and striking azurite specimen from this now iconic locality. Mark Cross photo.
