Azurite from the iconic Tsumeb mine needs no introduction, as superb examples, considered by many to be “best of species”, have been eagerly-sought by collectors and museums for over one hundred years. This fine miniature is a real classic, having likely been mined in the 1920’s or 30’s from the First Oxidation Zone at this great mine. It retains a vintage label from Dr. Maucher, a well-known German mineral dealer of the era, and also has numerous other labels documenting it’s provenance over the years. The lustrous, midnight-blue azurite crystals are up to 2.7 cm. and exhibit an interesting habit which I have observed in other older Tsumeb azurites from the First Oxidation Zone. A fine classic which looks great on its custom engraved acrylic display base. Ex. Alex Neufeld collection. Annette Slade photo.
