Description

Species: Azurite

Locality: Tsumeb mine, Tsumeb, Oshikoto Region, Namibia

Dimensions: 4.7 x 3.2 x 2.8 cm.

Azurite from the iconic Tsumeb mine needs no introduction, as superb examples, considered by many to be “best of species”, have been eagerly-sought by collectors and museums for over one hundred years. This fine specimen is a real classic, exhibiting large, sharp, blocky crystals with the typical “midnight blue” color of good Tsumeb azurites. The size of the crystals, lack of damage, and classic morphology all make this a choice Tsumeb azurite. The specimen was in the collection of Dr. Ed David, noted scientist and mineral collector, and later in the Alex Neufeld collection. A fine Tsumeb classic which looks great on its custom engraved acrylic display base.
