This is a wonderfully-aesthetic smithsonite miniature from the iconic Tsumeb mine, exhibiting gemmy, lustrous, highly-elongated scalenohedronal smithsonite crystals to nearly 3 cm. forming a cluster without matrix. The size, aesthetics and perfection of the smithsonite crystals is great, and it’s “instantly-recognizable” as an old Tsumeb classic, as no other locality in the world produces smithsonite crystals of this size, habit and color. The color is a pale yellow-pink, likely due to trace amounts of manganese or cobalt. Displays great on its custom acrylic engraved base. Ex. Alex Neufeld collection. Annette Slade photo.
