Baryte specimens from England’s Cumbria region have been considered classics of the mineral collecting world for over 150 years, and are prized for their beauty, size and perfection, still a global benchmark for this popular species. This superb large example from the famous Frizington District features several large (up to 8.5 cm) lustrous, doubly-terminated blue baryte crystals with hematite perched very aesthetically on a matrix on dolomite crystals. The aesthetics of this fine large specimen are excellent from multiple angles, and it looks great standing upright on its custom engraved acrylic display base by Sunnywood. This fine classic was likely mined in the late 19th century and was in a private collection in West Virginia until recently. Frizington barytes of this size and quality have become increasingly scarce on the market, and this is a superb example, in fine condition overall, especially considering the probably age of the piece.
