This is a large, impressive and aesthetic aquamarine plate from the famous Erongo Mountain area of Namibia. The Erongo Mountain area has produced some of the world’s finest and most distinctive aquamarine beryl specimens, which grace museums and private collections around the world. This fine specimen features gemmy, glassy, vibrant blue aquamarine crystals to 4.5 cm which are dramatically strewn jackstraw-style on a sculptural etched feldspar matrix. The striking upright crystal is 3.5 cm long and the large horizonally-oriented crystal in the center of the piece is 4.5 cm long (doubly terminated). This expertly-collected specimen is in pristine condition, and the “nest” of crystals comprising the center of the piece is undamaged. Elongate black schorl tourmaline crystals add a little aesthetic contrast to the piece. The specimen display great on it’s custom acrylic base, and would add a pop of color and pizazz to any display case. Ex. Alex Neufeld and Shields and Frances Flynn collection. Annette Slade photo.
