Indiana’s Meshberger quarry is known for it’s excellent amber to cognac-colored calcite crystals, which are considered true Midwest mineral classics, and occur in a variety of interesting crystal forms and morphologies. This is a superb large, rich orange-gold colored single calcite crystal with minor limestone matrix from finds 30-40 years ago at this classic locality. The size, quality and color of the calcite are all noteworthy for the locality, and it’s not a surprise that this fine piece was originally sold by ‘M Phantom Minerals” (Chris and Neal Pfaff), known throughout the Midwestern USA for their superb taste in minerals and wonderful demeanor. From there it passed to the K.C. Owings collection and then to Alex Neufeld. A choice large calcite from a classic Midwestern American locality which looks great on its custom acrylic display base.
