Vietnam’s Thanh Hoa region has produced aquamarine beryl crystals of incredible quality and color over the past decade or so, quickly making the region a household name in both the cut stone and mineral collecting world. The pegmatites which produce these incredibly deep, saturated-blue aquamarine crystals (caused by a coupled Fe2+/ Al3+ substitution in the crystal structure) now appear to be largely exhausted, and most of the material produced was either in the form of imperfect crystals, or was immediately cut due to the very high gem value. This is a superb, 7.5 cm, 20 gram crystal of GEM quality, completely transparent and with a complex pyramidal termination. A superb gem aquamarine from this important find, in perfect condition.
