China’s Leiping mine is noted for it’s superb and distinctive “butterfly” twinned calcite crystals, which are from a now-exhausted series of pockets 20+ years ago and are considered modern Chinese mineral classics. This superb example is from the noted collection of William “Bill” Severance of West Grove, Pennsylvania, and was acquired from Dan Weinrich by Bill around 20 years ago. It has the great aesthetics and pristine condition I associate with specimens from my friend Bill’s collection, and is a choice example of a true Chinese mineral classic. Minor red hematite really nicely accents the calcite twins. Annette Slade photo.
