Far Eastern Russia’s Dalnegorsk District is known for it’s excellent and varied fluorite specimens, and has yielded some of the world’s finest examples of clear and green fluorite. This fine large cabinet-size example is from old finds in the early 1990’s at the Nikolaevskiy mine and features glassy, sharp pale green cubic crystals to 3.5 cm on contrasting brown skarn matrix. These highly-transparent, perfect fluorite cubes on matrix from Dalnegorsk have always been highly sought-after by collectors, and this is a good large example. While the fluorite crystals do have some peripheral damage on the edge of the piece, overall I consider this specimen to be in good condition, and a minor fracture fill in a professional lab would make it even better. A Russian mineral classic! Annette Slade photo.
