Bulgaria’s Madan District is famous around the world for it’s superb and varied minerals. Galena occurs as world-class, often twinned crystals at numerous mines in the district, particularly from the well-known 9th of September mine. This highly-aesthetic large cabinet-size specimen features two “feathers” of sharp, lustrous parallel-growth galena crystals. The aesthetic presentation of the alternating cube and dodecahedron faces on these galena crystals is mesmerizing, and the specimen is is excellent condition. I have seen a lot of galena on the market from the Madan district, and this one really is like no other I have personally seen! Annette Slade photo.
