Fluorite crystals from Clay Center, Ohio have been considered true Midwest mineral classics for over 125 years, and can be found in collections and museums around the world. Around 2006 at the White Rock Quarry, the main quarrying operation in the limestone around Clay Center, a major pocket of world-class “rootbeer”-colored fluorite crystals was discovered. These superb gemmy, lustrous fluorites, up to 10+ cm and often associated with white bladed celestine crystals, set a “new bar” for this classic locality. Over fifteen years later, fine large example of this material have become scarce on the market. This is a fantastic large example featuring sharp, highly 3-dimensional fluorite crystals to 5 cm on edge perched very aesthetically on a matrix of celestine crystals and limestone. In fine condition and with great color and lack of damage, this is a superb Clay Center fluorite. Mark Cross photo.
