Species: Elbaite Tourmaline, Albite
Locality: Himalaya mine, Mesa Grande, San Diego County, California USA
Dimensions: 6.6 x 3.5 x 4 cm.
This beautiful matrix tourmaline specimen from California’s famous Himalaya mine features a gemmy, bright-pink, well-terminated ~3.3 cm. rubellite crystal emerging from a matrix of cleavelandite albite. This is a fine matrix Himalaya tourmaline and has a super provenance- it is from the famous Washington Roebling (1837-1926) collection, donated to the Smithsonian Institution in Washington DC. Likely from finds in the very early 20th century, this specimen is a real California mineral classic, and sits great for display. One inconspicuous repair. Mark Cross photos.
