Malachite after Azurite on Olivenite: Tsumeb mine, Tsumeb, Otjikoto, Namibia

Description

Species: Malachite after Azurite on Olivenite

Locality: Tsumeb mine, Tsumeb, Otjikoto Region, Namibia

Dimensions: 7.5 x 3.5 x 3.5 cm.

This is a superb, highly-aesthetic example of razor-sharp, undamaged malachite after azurite crystals to ~4.5 cm on green crystallized olivenite matrix from the iconic Tsumeb mine, Tsumeb, Otjikoto Region, Namibia. For aesthetics and perfection, I have to say it’s one of the best such psuedomorphs I have personally seen for the size. Not surprisingly, this fine old classic also hails from the noted collection of William “Bill” Severance of West Grove, Pennsylvania. Bill acquired it from Julius and Miriam Zweibel, note Tsumeb specialists, nearly 50 years ago. Annette Slade photo.
