Torbernite, a uranium phosphate species, is one of the more popular and sought-after secondary uranium minerals, and occurs as fine, emerald-green crystals at numerous localities around the world. Some of the finest torbernite specimens were found at the famous Shinkolobwe mine in the Congo, one of the world’s richest uranium deposits, and the source of much of the uranium used in WWII. This superb large cabinet-size specimen features sharp, intense emerald-green torbernite crystals to ~1.8 cm forming a gorgeous “forest” of crystals on matrix. Large, fine Congolese metatorbernites such as this are quite scarce on the market today, and this is an excellent and very showy example of this striking uranium species. Annette Slade photo.⠀
