Species: Native Copper
Locality: Lake Superior Copper District, Houghton County, Michigan, USA
Dimensions: 13 x 8 x 5.5 cm.
This is a superb large cabinet-size group of sharp, elongated spinel-twinned copper crystals with a beautiful “antique” brown patina and very nice aesthetics from the famous Keweenaw Peninsula of Michigan. While this does not have a specific mine attribution, the crystal style and minor prehnite/analcime association is consistent with the fissure vein type deposits of Keweenaw County (Stefano & Persson, 2022). The elegant, elongated spinel twins are quite sharp in places, and they have an artful arrangement. A great Michigan copper! Mark Cross photo.
