Southwest Colorado’s Idarado mine is one of the most famous mines in the Western United States and is known for it’s prolific and superb mineral specimens found over a 100+ year period. Closed for nearly 30 years at this point, fine large specimens from this mine have become highly-prized, and this is a choice example from the noted collection of geologist, miner and author Tom Rosemeyer. It features well-formed octahedral green fluorite crystals to ~1.5 cm completely covered (and in some places replaced by) quartz, which are studded on elongated lustrous milky quartz crystals to ~5 cm. This large specimen has great crystals on BOTH sides and displays wonderfully. A true Colorado classic! Mark Cross photo.
