Rutile on Kyanite: Graves Mountain, Lincoln Co., Georgia, USA
Dimensions: 6 x 4.5 x 4.5 cm.
This excellent small cabinet-size specimen features an extremely lustrous, sharp, undamaged rutile crystal measuring 4.7 cm long which is perched aesthetically on iron-stained kyanite matrix. This highly 3-dimensional specimen displays great from multiple sides and is in excellent condition with exceptional luster for the locality. Expert specimen preparation has resulted in a specimen with wonderful display aesthetics and very “aerial” crystals matrix. The crystal is complete all-around and what appears to be a crack in the photo is actually a thin natural separation between two crystal faces which is much less apparent in person. Rutile crystals of this quality from Graves Mountain are not common, and this is a superb example from this classic American locality which has produced the world’s finest rutile specimens.
