As far as I know, this is the largest specimen from a small pocket of superb, lustrous green cuprian smithsonite discovered around 15-20 years ago at Pit No. 9 in Morocco’s famous Touissit-Bou Beker mining district. The color and luster is superb, and this huge smithsonite really has a ‘wow factor’ in a display case. For the size, the specimen is in excellent condition, and could easily be trimmed professionally into a slightly smaller, more ‘compact’ specimen if desired. A gorgeous smithsonite from a classic and unusual locality for the species. Was part of a Bonham’s and Butterfield’s Auction about 10 years ago. Annette Slade photo.
