The Fire Creek Mine, a small high-grade, low-sulfidation epithermal vein deposit in northern Nevada, USA, produced a small number of superb crystallized gold specimens a few years ago from a so far “one time” find. Characterized by sharp “fans” of elongate spinel twins and “herringbone” crystals, these gold specimens are very attractive. This superb 7.5 x 4.5 x 3.5 cm example contains numerous well-formed gold crystal ‘fans” to ~1.5 cm on contrasting quartz matrix. The sharpness and perfection of the gold crystals is excellent, and their placement on matrix is quite aesthetic. A fine crystallized gold specimen from an exciting, potentially one-time find, as the Fire Creek mine is currently closed. Ex. Miner’s Lunchbox, Ex. Sherry & Dwayne Kramer Collection.
