Description
Species: Sphalerite
Locality: Edwards Mine (St. Joe Lead), Edwards, Balmat-Edwards Zinc Mining District, St. Lawrence Co., New York, USA
Dimensions: 18 x 9 x 5 cm.
The Balmat-Edwards Zinc Mining District in Upstate New York’s Saint Lawrence County is noted for it’s superb and often gemmy sphalerite crystals, and this is a choice large example, with extremely gemmy, lustrous pale green crystals to ~8 mm covering massive brown sphalerite ore matrix, from the Edwards mine. Good large showy crystallized sphalerite specimens from this district are quite rare on the market, and this superb example was likely mined in the early 1990’s. A choice New York State classic in fine condition. Annette Slade photo.
