Calcite, Dolomite: Fletcher mine, Missouri USA

A new (summer 2021) pocket at the Fletcher mine, an operating lead mine in Missouri’s famous Viburnum Trend, produced some very aesthetic golden calcite specimens, this large piece probably being the best that I personally have seen. The aesthetics of the “haystack” of doubly-terminated lustrous yellow calcite crystals (to ~6 cm) on dolomite is super aesthetic, and this piece is in fine condition and can be displayed from multiple angles. A great Viburnum Trend calcite from a district that is still occasionally producing great mineral specimens. Mark Cross photo.
