Species: Corundum var. Ruby
Locality: Luc Yen District, Yen Bai Province, Vietnam
Dimensions: 6.3 x 4.5 x 3.5 cm.
Vietnam’s Luc Yen District has produced some superb ruby, sapphire and spinel specimens over the past ~20 years, though it appears the marble-hosted deposits in this region (similar to Mogok), are nearly exhausted. This is a choice group of saturated pinkish-red ruby crystals from older finds, showing good color and well-defined hexagonal barrel-like morphology. A very nice group of ruby crystals from a classic contemporary locality for this rare and sought-after gem mineral. Mark Cross photo.
