This is a fine, very 3-dimensional group of sharp fluorite crystals to nearly 5 cm from old finds in the Cave-in-Rock District, Hardin County, Illinois. The quality and diversity of fluorite specimens from the iconic Southern Illinois Fluorspar District needs no introduction, and this is an excellent large cabinet-size example from finds in the mid-20th century. The fluorite crystals are very sharp and exhibit highly-aesthetic multi-generational cubic growth, with large crystals showing yellow cores and violet-purple rims. Acquired from miner E.W. “Hardrock” Pappe in 1961 (with label), this fine fluorite was later in the collection of Bob Batic. Annette Slade photo. Classic!
