Species: Quartz var. Amethyst
Locality: Goboboseb Mountains, Erongo Region, Namibia
Dimensions: 7.1 x 5.8 x 5 cm.
Namibia’s Goboboseb Mountains are known for their world-class amethyst specimens, which are found in geode-like pockets in basalt in this rugged desert mountain range. This choice small cabinet-size example features lustrous, intense “grape-jelly” purple amethyst crystals to ~3 cm forming a flower-like, undamaged cluster on basalt matrix. The color is as good as I’ve seen for the locality, and the aesthetic presentation of the crystal cluster on matrix is excellent. Ex. Alex Neufeld collection. Annette Slade photo.
