This is a wonderfully-aesthetic, high-quality smoky quartz specimen, perfectly crystallized all around and with the best luster, form and color that the Mount Malosa locality produces. Both crystals are doubly-terminated, and they form a fantastically-attractive “V” cluster without matrix. Dark green aegirine crystals to several centimeters protrude from the quartz crystals, marking it as an unmistakedly Mount Malosa piece. Mount Malosa, a peralkaline pegmatite locality in Malawi, is known for it’s smoky quartz specimens, but very rarely are they found in this almost Alpine-like quality. A choice large cabinet-size specimen from the well-known collection of Anka & Uli Bahmann of Midrand, Johannesburg, South Africa. Ex. Alex Neufeld collection. Looks great on it’s custom acrylic display base as well. Annette Slade photo.
