The Chestnut Flats mine in North Carolina’s Spruce Pine pegmatite district has produced some of the world’s finest uraninite crystals, but specimens are almost never seen for sale from this classic locality. This is a superb group of crystals to ~1.3 cm., dense and very rich, in minor feldspar matrix. This specimen is HOT at over 200,000 CPM on my Ludlum Model 3 Counter with the 44-9 probe. An awesome uraninite specimen from a famous locality!!
