The famous Trepca Mining District, a world-class locality for numerous sulfide and gangue minerals, has recently started producing fine specimens again. This is a choice large plate of well-formed lustrous pyrite crystals on a matrix of crystallized black sphalerite and white calcite. Good pyrite specimens from Trepca are some of the best in the world and this is an excellent and quite large example. A classic association for Trepca, and in very good condition considering the large size of this showy piece. Mark Cross photo.
