Fluorapatite, Dolomite: La Marina Mine, Boyacá Department, Colombia

Description

Species: Fluorapatite, Dolomite

Locality: La Marina Mine, Pauna Municipality, Western Boyacá Province, Boyacá Department, Colombia

Dimensions: 7.5 x 5 x 3.5 cm.

The La Marina mine, and emerald mine in Colombia’s fabled Emerald Belt, is known mainly for it’s world-class specimens of vivid blue euclase and intense-pink fluorapatite. These rare specimens are highly-prized and seldom appear on the market. This is an excellent matrix pink apatite, featuring gemmy, lustrous, vivid-pink crystals forming a faden-like chain ~2.3 cm long on a matrix of white dolomite and albite crystals. A great matrix example of this sought-after classic! Mark Cross photo.
