Rhodonite, Galena: Broken Hill mine, Broken Hill, New South Wales, Australia

Description

Species: Rhodonite, Galena

Locality: Broken Hill mine, Broken Hill, New South Wales, Australia

Dimensions: 10.5 x 5 x 6 cm.

The world’s finest and most classic rhodonite crystals are found in the famous Broken Hill ore deposit in the Australian outback, and are some of the most sought-after and well-known off all minerals from “down under.” This is a fine cabinet-size example featuring deep red, translucent, lustrous rhodonite crystals to 4.5 cm embedded in coarse-grained recrystallized galena. The contrast between the rhodonite and galena is super, and the specimen sits nicely on it’s own for display. Mark Cross photo. Classic!!
